This $12,000 award supports Tasmanian based arts professionals to undertake a self-directed residency in Italy.  A partner project between the Alcorso Foundation and Arts Tasmania the award aims to promote artistic excellence and professional development.

2012 / SARAH JONES

Sarah Jones, Artist, Curator, Writer was awarded the Italian Arts Residency award to travel to Italy in 2012 to undertake an internship at the noted contemporary artspace EX3 in Florence.

An accomplished and nationally profiled arts practitioner Sarah has recently curated major projects including Iteration Again, Hobart 2011 under the curatorial direction of David Cross, Massey University SOFA Wellington, NZ; trophywife, Melbourne 2011; Erotographomania, Hobart 2011.

Sarah is a recipient of many fellowships and awards including an Arts Tasmania Assistance to Individuals grant for curatorial research in 2010; the CAST emerging curator mentorship in 2009; and a Janet Holmes a Courts Assistance Grant.

The Alcorso Foundation 2012 Italian Arts Residency will provide Sarah with the opportunity to travel to Italy to undertake a three month internship under the guidance of Director Sergio Tossi, working alongside respected Italian curators Arabella Natalini and Lorenzo Giusti.  Sarah will also work with Hobart based gallery Detached with Director, Penny Clive and curator Craig Judd towards developing an exchange exhibition as a result of her residency.
